Microphones / Wired Microphones

Wired Microphones.

Wired dynamic and condenser microphones — handheld, headset, lavalier, gooseneck, conference and studio models with XLR, 6.35 mm, 3.5 mm and mini XLR connections.

About wired microphones

A wired microphone has no battery to run out, no frequency to coordinate and nothing to interfere with. Where the person speaking stays in one place, it remains the more reliable and more economical choice.

This range covers the full spread of speech applications: handheld dynamics for stage and karaoke, headset and lavalier condensers for hands-free presenting and teaching, gooseneck and table units for conference rooms, and studio condensers for recording and streaming.

Connector type matters as much as the capsule. Alongside standard XLR and 6.35 mm models there are mini XLR versions built specifically to plug into wireless bodypack transmitters, and 3.5 mm models for direct device connection.

How to choose wired microphones

01

Dynamic for handheld, condenser for hands-free

The dynamic SYS-ND86 and SYS-U87 are uni-directional, robust and need no power — the right answer for a handheld microphone on a loud stage. The condenser headset and lavalier models are more sensitive and pick up a quiet speaking voice clearly, but they are omni-directional and hear more of the room, so they need more care with gain and speaker placement.

02

Check the connector against what you are plugging into

6.35 mm models connect directly to most mixer amplifiers. XLR models suit professional mixers and phantom-powered inputs. Mini XLR models such as the SYS-W10, SYS-M5 and SYS-700 are intended for wireless bodypacks. The 3.5 mm SYS-701 connects to devices and portable amplifiers.

03

For conference rooms, use a directional pattern

The table-mounted SYS-D27 is unidirectional and the gooseneck SYS-E66 is cardioid. Both reject sound arriving from behind, which is exactly what you need with several open microphones and loudspeakers in the same room.

04

Watch the cable length

These ship with cables from 1 m to 6 m depending on model, and the length is listed on every product page. A 1 m mini XLR lead is designed for a bodypack on the belt; a 6 m lead is designed to reach a lectern.

Common questions

01What is the difference between a dynamic and a condenser microphone?

A dynamic microphone needs no power, handles high sound levels and rejects background noise well, which makes it durable and forgiving for handheld use. A condenser is more sensitive and captures more detail, but requires phantom power or a battery and picks up more of the room — better for headset, lavalier, gooseneck and recording work.

02Which microphone is best for teaching or presenting?

A headset condenser such as the SYS-60CC, SYS-HM60 or SYS-370Q keeps the microphone at a fixed distance from the mouth regardless of head movement, which gives a consistent level and leaves both hands free. A lavalier is less visible but more variable in level.

03Do I need phantom power?

Only for some models. The SYS-8800 requires 48V phantom power and the gooseneck SYS-E66 accepts phantom 48V or DC 3V. Dynamic microphones need none, and the ZTD-33 USB condenser explicitly requires no external power source.

04Can I use a wired microphone with a wireless transmitter?

Yes — that is exactly what the mini XLR models are for. The SYS-W10 headset, SYS-M5 lavalier and SYS-700 ear hook all terminate in mini XLR to connect to a bodypack transmitter.
